..Our quality preschool offers creative and challenging instruction, fun activities, wholesome socialization and timeless Christian values. This provides students with a solid foundation as they begin their journey through childhood education.
History: Ramona Lutheran Preschool began in January of 1978. We are celebrating 30 years of wonderful success in the education of children in a Christian environment! The preschool is licensed under the Department of Social Services, Community Care Division and we have a fully accredited staff.
Facility: We have two classes. Each class has two teachers. The ratio of teacher to child is 1:12. Our students enjoy a newly remodeled playground, 2 gardens, and play areas for physical fitness.
Program: The Montessori environment has the physical appearance of an open classroom. Our setting is designed to foster independence or “freedom within limits”, allowing the children to freely chose their age appropriate activities while sitting in the child-sized furniture. Structure and discipline are designed into the environment and become internalized within the child.
Our curriculum is based on a three-year cycle, including subjects on vertebrates, invertebrates and botany. Education is child-centered, rather than teacher-centered, and we believe that each child is an individual with individual differences and gifts. We promote “real-life” activities as early as age two and half, to promote confidence in successfully achieving goals in academics. Through our phonics program, the children learn to sound out letters and forms words.
Our preschool program enhances spiritual development and manners. It recognizes physical development. It also teaches Spanish to each child. We socialize the children in mixed age groups. From this method, the children learn concern for others (we take care of people) and learn to become leaders in the classroom. Two unique areas of interest in our classroom are Practical Life and Sensorial. In Practical Life, the child automatically establishes good work habits for future academic work through activities such as water pouring, sewing, play dough, sweeping, coloring, gluing, transferring and one-to-one work. The Sensorial area offers work which appeals to the senses. Like our classroom itself, the activities appeal to the children through their senses. Examples include the Pink Tower, the Red Rods, bead stringing, fabric squares, texture dominoes, parquetry, felt pieces and Broad Stairs.
The art area fosters creativity through painting, coloring, cutting, and designing. It gives the children freedom to create at their will. Special art projects are offered twice a week for a time of art instruction.
Math (including Montessori math), geography and science are also main areas of our classroom focus. The activities are thoughtfully prepared to be interesting and fun for the child.
